The Aviary in the Wilhelma, Stuttgart

The concept of the aviary focuses on total dematerialization: a filigree net of cables comparable to a "cocoon" spans between high and low points, draping over trees and the individual bird houses covered in green foliage. The pedestrian path within the enclosure, which is rid of all partitions, allows for a direct encounter between visitors and the birds.  The qualities of a historical botanical garden and a contemporary zoo are brought together and combined "effortlessly" within the historically protected area of the Wilhelma and the existing backdrop of trees.
